Kohl Denny is the wildest of wild men!

If you’re alive and live within the motocross industry, then you may have already seen the footage going around of Kohl Denny TRYING to flip his sketchy ramp setup at a FMX Ramp Age show, so here’s the story of what happened on that amazing night. Little bit of a backstory, Kohl Denny is a major bad ass, and contributes to FMX Ramp Age by starring in his own segment where he literally builds the sketchiest of all sketchy ramps out of a ladder and the back of his truck. He actually does this during our show while the show is going on, and then we come to a time at the end of the show where whether the ramp is ready or not, Kohl has to jump it. When you think of sketchy ramp youre probably thinking the same thing I was initially thinking…cinder block, plywood, maybe some 2x4’s if youre really trying to make it secure…but no, not even close. The ramp Kohl creates actually ends up being steeper, and longer than the FMX ramp we use in the show to do double grab backflips off of! We actually did a survey of all FMX Ramp Age riders to see if any of them would hit kohls ramp….the response was a 100% no from everyone. So one night in Ogden Utah, we are performing an amazing show for a private company party. Everything is going perfect and the owners of said company are loving life and enjoying their time. Cut to 3 hours before the show, Kohl says to me “man, I really think I might be able to flip my sketchy ramp”. My response being the newly crowned responsible show promoter was, “dude, we really dont need it. Theres no pressure from me to do that, id hold off if I were you”. Kohl says to me “yea youre right, I actually watched a video and dont think it would work cause the bend of the ramp just isn’t quite right. “Good call, let’s skip it” I said to close the conversation. Now back to where we began the story…the end of an awesome show! Maybe the show was just a little too awesome and the guys were feeling it just a little bit too much! It comes time for Kohl to send his sketchy ramp….PERFECT! Sends the jump, lands it perfectly, crowd goes wild. Kohl says to the crowd “hey guys look I built this thing I think we gotta send a trick off it before I tear it apart”. None of the crew is thinking anything at this point, just figured we were gonna see a hart attack on this sketchy ramp that no one in their right mind would even hit. Javier Villegas is actually so excited about kohls sketchy ramp that he turns on his insta360 camera, and hits the standard 75 ramp right behind kohl to get some great footage. then something unexpected happened for everyone, especially Javier! Midway up the ramp kohl starts shifting his body weight back over the rear fender, and initiates a backflip. Javier is literally peeing his pants right now because of how unexpected it was. Luckily Kohl gets the perfect pull, the rotation is going perfectly and kohl looks like he’s going to pull it. But wait….the mood turns dark. Because of the angle of kohls ramp, and just how he mentioned earlier in the day, once he leaned back to flip and got some extra compression on the suspension, it robbed his speed and he was coming about 5’ short. The problem with airbags is when you dont land perfectly, they become unpredictable spring boards. When kohl landed flat on the safety deck you can see the airbag catch his foot and pull it off the peg. And that…was that. Theres no saving it from there on out. Kohl went for a ride not many will go on in their lives. Being the tough SOB kohl is, he calmed everyone’s worries by telling them he was fine…but also telling them he couldn’t walk off the floor. After getting kohl back to his truck with a couple of ice packs kohls spirit remained super high. He said he Was pretty happy about the crash and how he thought it could have been so much worse. What a wild man! I do have to agree though, although kohl was pretty banged up, the fact that he was coherent and feeling pretty good was very good to see. Aside from that FMX Ramp Age shows have been going great, and the response we have gotten from the fans, and from those who hire us has been amazing! Can’t event explain how happy I am to have such a great crew around me to create these shows with. Next stops are Douglas County Rodeo NV, Redwood Acres Eureka CA, J RESORT Reno Street Vibes party. See ya there!
